Cymatics Program Results

Internal result log for the 3D Acoustic Field Visualization in Microgravity program.

Program ID: CYMATICS Status: PREPRINT AVAILABLE Pre-registration: Required before any data collection Open Science: All protocols and raw data published on completion

How this log works: Each row is one test. Rows with blank Outcome and Compliance fields have not yet been run. Predictions are documented before any data collection begins. Results, delta, and lessons learned are filled in after a test is completed. This log is the program's internal record. Externally confirmed predictions are also logged on the main Results Registry.

CYM-001 Phase 1: Ground-Based Prototype Validation Internal / Lab A transparent sphere with a tetrahedral transducer array and particle medium under gravity will produce standard 2D Chladni cross-sections, confirming the instrumentation is functioning correctly and establishing the baseline that microgravity will disrupt. February 2026 Single-transducer excitation as control for multi-transducer patterns. Frequency sweep from 20 Hz to 20 kHz to catalog known Chladni patterns for comparison against Phase 2 results. Pending Not yet run. Phase 1 design under review. Finalize instrumentation specification. Source transparent sphere and particle medium. Note: Phase 1 methodology is preliminary and open to improvement before prototyping begins. Contributions from acoustic engineers welcome. The methodology for this phase is explicitly marked preliminary. See program page for details.
CYM-002 Phase 2: Parabolic Flight Microgravity Acoustic Fields Internal / Lab In microgravity (22 seconds per arc, 30 arcs), particles in an acoustic field will distribute in 3D nodal surface geometry rather than 2D cross-sections: spherical node shells at fundamental frequencies, nested concentric shells at harmonics, Platonic solid node-point geometries at specific symmetry-group frequencies, toroidal and quasicrystalline arrangements under multi-frequency excitation. February 2026 Phase 1 ground-based patterns as baseline. Cross-sections of observed 3D structures should reproduce known Chladni figures when intersected by a horizontal plane. Pending Not yet run. Requires Phase 1 completion and funding for parabolic flight. Complete Phase 1. Secure parabolic flight funding (estimated $95,000-$155,000). Design flight payload. Pre-register predicted geometries before any flight data is collected. All Phase 2 predictions will be pre-registered on Zenodo before any data collection begins. This is a firm commitment.
CYM-003 Framework Prediction: Crop Formation Geometry Correspondence Thought Experiment / Combination 3D cymatic patterns in microgravity, when cross-sectioned along a horizontal plane, will produce geometries corresponding to documented crop formation patterns. This prediction is logged independently of the physics experiment and evaluated separately. February 2026 Blind comparison: analyst who has not seen the crop formation database evaluates whether cross-sections match documented patterns above chance level. Pending Not yet run. Depends on Phase 2 completion. This prediction is evaluated only after Phase 2 physics results are obtained and the instrument is confirmed functional. The physics experiment proceeds on its own merits regardless of this prediction. Logged as a COSMIC Framework prediction on the Testing Schedule. Evaluated independently of the acoustic physics results.
